Holley Sets Assist Record in Shutout
Friday, September 17, 2004
Valparaiso University's Lindsay Holley (Waldorf, Md./Westlake H.S.) set a new Crusaders' career assist mark helping to lead the Brown and Gold to a 3-0 victory over Indiana State at Eastgate Field on Friday.

Holley received a pass from Allison Swanson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley H.S.) off a cross and fed Jen Bartels (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores H.S.) for a goal 3:13 into the match. Bartels second tally of the year also was the fourth fastest goal to start a match in school history. Holley's assist was the 12th of her career, passing Jennifer Grupe (1998-2001) and fourth of the season.

Swanson then started the second goal for Valpo just 1:21 later. She found Kelly Faulkner (Plymouth, Minn./Maple Grove H.S.) five yards out to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead. The 1:21 marked the second fastest span between two goals in Valpo history.

Faulkner added her third goal of the season and second of the match at the 81:06 mark to give the Crusaders an insurance tally. She lofted the ball over goalkeeper Rachel Rudzis after a misplay by the Sycamores.

Erin Murray (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley H.S.) made six saves in goal for the Brown and Gold to notch her first career shutout.

Indiana State outshot Valpo 14-7 for the match, as Rudzis made just one save, but the Crusaders put three of their four shots on net in the goal.

Valparaiso (2-3-1) will open Mid-Continent Conference action on Sunday afternoon as the Crusaders host IUPUI at Eastgate Field beginning at 1 p.m.
