Box Score

Loyola scored twice within the first five minutes of the match on Tuesday evening on its way to a 3-0 shutout victory over Valparaiso in Chicago, Ill.

The host Ramblers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Katie Heidenreich scored from eight yards out just 2:54 into the match following an assist from Cynthia Morote-Ariza.

Heidenreich added another goal just 1:24 later on a penalty kick and Nikki Staton completed the scoring in the 20th minute scoring off of a corner three yards out in the box.

Loyola outshot Valpo 7-3 in the first half, and each school had a pair of corner kick opportunities.

Valpo managed just two shot attempts in the second 45 minutes as the Crusaders were unable to find the scoreboard in the match.

“We demonstrated our ability to play with Loyola after the first 25 minutes,” Valpo head coach Stephen Anthony.  “We were flat at the start and it was too costly.”

The Ramblers outshot Valpo 12-5 for the match and had four corner kick chances to the Crusaders’ three.  Erin Murray (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley H.S.) made two saves in goal for the Crusaders while Mele Cabral (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) made one stop playing the final 24 minutes.

Colleen Dougherty made two saves for Loyola (6-5, 2-0 Horizon) in the victory.

Valparaiso (6-6, 0-2) will return to action on Friday afternoon as the Crusaders host Detroit at Eastgate Field to begin its final homestand of the season.  Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. with all the action carried live on WVUR (95.1-FM, Valparaiso) and online at www.valpo.edu/athletics.
