Visit From Haitian National Team Highlights Women's Soccer Spring Slate

Valparaiso women's soccer head coach John Marovich announced his program's spring schedule today, highlighted by a visit from the Haitian National Team to Brown Field on Saturday, April 12.

"We are excited about the quality of our spring schedule as each contest will give us a very specific challenge which will help us develop as a program," said Marovich. "The game is the best teacher and these matches will teach us a great deal about ourselves and give us great confidence heading into the 2014 season."

The Crusaders' spring slate started in February, as Valpo battled Northern Illinois to a 2-2 draw in a 9v9 match. Valpo travels to Indianapolis [Grand Park Sports Complex] tomorrow, Saturday, March 22 (8 p.m. ET kickoff) to take on an Illinois State squad which won the Missouri Valley Conference last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Crusaders host Ferris State and St. Joseph's College on Brown Field in a pair of 60-minute games on Saturday, April 5, beginning at 1 p.m. Then, on Wednesday, April 9, Valpo makes the short trip east to South Bend to face Notre Dame at 8 p.m. ET - the Fighting Irish are coming off a 13-win season and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2013.

Valpo will then cap its Alumni Day on Saturday, April 12 by welcoming the Haitian National Team to Brown Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Haiti, led by former FC Indiana manager Shek Borkowski and ranked 59th in the world in the latest FIFA world rankings, is in the final stages of preparation for the 2015 Women's World Cup qualifiers. The Crusaders' spring schedule concludes on Saturday, April 26 in West Lafayette as Valpo faces Purdue (noon ET) and IPFW (4 p.m. ET).

"The match against the Haitian National Team will be a very unique opportunity for our young women," said Marovich. "It is an experience that not many players get during a career and will be an amazing environment to develop our game. We are looking forward to the energy this game will provide on Brown Field, and hope to see the campus community and city get behind this match."
