Women’s Soccer Set to Welcome Haitian National Team to Brown Field Saturday

For the first time in program history, the Valparaiso women’s soccer team will take on a national team, as the Crusaders close out the home portion of their 2014 spring schedule by welcoming Haiti to Brown Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff Saturday evening.

Valpo is in the midst of a successful spring campaign.  The Crusaders drew with Northern Illinois to kick off the slate, 2-2, before earning a 2-1 win over an Illinois State squad which won the Missouri Valley Conference championship last season.  Valpo defeated Ferris State and St. Joseph’s College by 2-0 and 3-0 scores last Saturday and gave Notre Dame a tough battle Wednesday night in South Bend, scoring the first goal before falling by a 3-1 final.

Haiti, led by former FC Indiana manager Shek Borkowski and ranked 56th in the world in the latest FIFA world rankings, is training in South Bend as part of its final stages of preparation for the 2015 Women's World Cup qualifiers.  The game at Brown Field is one of a number for the Haitian national team against Indiana-based colleges and universities.
