The Valparaiso University women's soccer team had it rough going on Tuesday as they took to the field for the first time in 2003, falling 7-1 to Wisconsin-Milwaukee on the road in exhibition action.

The host Panthers broke through six times before intermission. Taylor Powell put UWM on the scoreboard just 1:50 into the match and Lisa Bengtsson followed at the 4:21 mark against Kristen Templin (Madison, Wis./Middleton H.S.).

Melissa Richter then lofted a shot from 40 yards out into the back of the net in the 24th minute and Powell added her second of the match just under three minutes later.

Andrea Kramer and Kristen Baluta each put first half tallies past Danielle Guerra (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.).

Emily King (Colona, Ill./United Township H.S.) scored the Crusaders lone goal at the 54:52 mark on a blast from 30 yards out past back-up keeper Kerry St. Aubin.

Elizabeth Chudy added a late goal for Wisconsin-Milwaukee to cap off the scoring.

The Panthers outshot Valpo 16-6 for the match, including 11-1 in the opening stanza.

Valparaiso will conclude the exhibition portion of their schedule on Sunday afternoon with a 12 p.m. match at DePauw in Greencastle, Ind. before opening the regular season on August 29 at Loyola (Ill.).
