Griffith Earns Player of the Week Honors

Valparaiso University women’s soccer sophomore Cory Griffith (Lemont, Ill./Providence Catholic) has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a pair of goals in the Crusaders’ regular season finale at Northern Kentucky on Friday, helping Valpo secure a spot in the Horizon League Championship.

Griffith opened up the scoring in the 24th minute of action, and added her second goal of the game in the 31st minute – a tally which proved vital as Valpo held on for the 2-1 victory. For Griffith, it was her fifth match-winning goal of the season, setting a new Crusader single-season record. The sophomore, who now has seven goals and 16 points on the year, picked up a brace for the second time this season and third time in her first two years at Valpo.

Griffith earned Offensive Player of the Week honors from the league office for the second time this season, making her the first Valpo player to earn multiple player of the week accolades in the same season for her offensive exploits since Lori Moore was a three-time Mid-Con Player of the Week in 2000.
