Valpo Defeated in Dual Meet at Western Illinois

Valparaiso traveled to Macomb, Ill. on Saturday afternoon for a dual meet with Western Illinois, but the Westerwinds were too much for the Crusaders, defeating the Brown and Gold 193-92.

Jaclyn Krause(Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.) won the 200 freestyle for the Crusaders but just .03 seconds over teammate Amanda Gregory (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.). The freshman touched the wall in 1:58.98. Krause also finished second in the 500 free for Valpo with a time of 5:20.58, just .50 seconds off of the pace.

Gregory posted a victory of her own in the 100 freestyle by .13 seconds over the Westerwinds for Valpo's only other victory of the day. The senior finished with a mark of 55.16 seconds.

Katie Cissell (Bloomington, Ind./Edgewood H.S.) earned a runner-up finish for the Brown and Gold in the mile with her time of 19:27.79. Katlyn Smethurst (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge H.S.) also finished second for the Crusaders, doing so in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:17.72.

Anna Kampling (Iowa City, Iowa/West H.S.) placed second in the 100 butterfly, just .21 behind the victor with her time of 1:00.70 while Elizabeth Thompson (Norman, Okla./North H.S.) earned the same finish in the 400 individual medley in 4:52.44. Anna Orwick (Broadlands, Ill./Champaign Centennial H.S.) also finished second in the one-meter diving with a score of 167.40.

Valparaiso (2-6) will take a week off from action before returning to the pool on December 1-2 in Indianapolis for the House of Champions Invitational. Friday's action begins at 5:30 p.m. CST.
