Crusaders Defeat Eastern Illinois in Home Finale

            Jaclyn Krause (Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.) won three events and Valparaiso closed out the home portion of the 2007-2008 schedule with a victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

            “I’m really pleased with the win today,” interim head coach Barbara Tyree said.  “We had numerous good swims.”

            Krause began the day teaming with Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.), Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.), and Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) won the 400 medley relay by more than six seconds with a time of 4:06.15.

            Krause also won the 200 free with a mark of 2:02.05 and the 100 free with a time of 53.95 seconds.

            Stephanie Ferschl (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago H.S.) added a victory in the 1000 free with a time of 11:15.75 while Majercik posted a victory in the 50 free with a time of 24.52 seconds.

            Andracki triumphed in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:30.58 while Anna Orwick (Broadlands, Ill./Champaign Centennial H.S.) won the diving with a score of 210.70.

            The Crusaders closed out the day with another six-second win in the 400 free as Ferschl, Grace Arnold (Glendora, Calif./Glendora H.S.), Kati Smethurst (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge H .S.), and Dangremond turned in a time of 3:48.60.

            Katie Cissell (Bloomington, Ind./Edgewood H.S.) was runner-up in the 1000 free (11:18.95) while Andracki earned a runner-up finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:57.26.  Majercik finished just behind Krause in the 100 free with a time of 53.99 seconds and Ferschl was just touched out in the 500 free (5:31.41).

            Valparaiso (3-8) will wrap up the dual meet portion of the schedule next Saturday in Chicago, as the Crusaders face UIC in a 1 p.m. meet.
