Valparaiso’s women’s swimming and diving team returned to the water for the second straight day on Saturday, finishing in fifth place at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Crusaders finished the meet with 104 points while the host Boilermakers won the event with 815 points.
Laura Rickey (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.) had Valpo’s top individual finish of the day, placing ninth in the 100 freestyle. The senior finished with a time of 56.41 seconds.
Karen Berg (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley H.S.) added a 10th place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.06 for the Crusaders.
The Brown and Gold also had a pair of 11th place marks. Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) finished with a collegiate-best time of 2:17.40 in the 200 individual medley while Stephanie Ferschl (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago H.S.) earned the same spot with a time of 5:35.70 in the 500 freestyle.
Valparaiso will have two weeks off before beginning its dual meet schedule at home on October 24 when the Crusaders host Wright State in a 10 a.m. contest.
