Crusader Women Fourth Sunday Afternoon

Valparaiso finished in fourth place on Sunday afternoon in a five-team meet hosted by Butler held in Fishers, Ind.

The Crusaders scored 271 points to down instate rival Butler by more than 130 points, but fell to Ball StateYoungstown State (493), and Eastern Illinois (375). (833), 

Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) led the way for the Crusaders with a trio of top-five finishes on the afternoon.  The senior won the 200 freestyle by 0.21 seconds with a time of 1:56.45.  She also finished third in the 100 free, touching the wall in 54.08 seconds while placing fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.78.

Justine Barnes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams H.S.) also added a top-five finish with a time of 2:19.28 in the 200 fly to place fifth. 

Kristy Shew (Terre Haute, Ind./North Vigo H.S.) placed sixth in the 500 free, posting a mark of 5:28.04, just 0.09 seconds outside of the top-five.

Valparaiso will wrap up the dual meet portion of its schedule with its home finale on February 6 as the Crusaders host Western Illinois and Butler at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.  The first race begins at 1 p.m.
