Valpo Women Fifth at Coers Invitational

Valparaiso wrapped up action at the Coers Invitational hosted by Ball State University on Saturday, and placed fifth with 121 points in Muncie, Ind.

Ball State won the meet with 801 points while Marshall was second with 503.5 points

The Crusaders began the day with a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay as Natalie Jarrett (Lebanon, Ind./Western Boone H.S.), Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.), Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.), and Laura Rickey (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.) turned in a time of 1:55.41.

Andracki finished eighth individually in the 100 breaststroke, notching a time of 1:10.81. 

Rickey also had the team’s best time in the 200 freestyle with her mark of 2:02.18 while Jarrett had the team’s best 100 back mark of 1:03.05.

Justine Barnes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams H.S.) had the team’s top mark in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 1:03.38.

The morning session ended as Jarrett, Dangremond, Alizabeth Taubert (Bloomington, Ill./University H.S.), and Rickey finished fifth in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:20.024.

Stephanie Ferschl (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago H.S.) led off the second session of the day with a time of 19:05.14 in the 1650 freestyle for the Crusaders’ top time.

Jarrett added the team’s best mark in the 200 back with a time of 2:18.18 while Rickey added a time of 56.86 seconds in the 100 free as the afternoon session moved along.

Sarah Robertson (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville H.S.) turned in a time of 2:42.15 to lead the way in the 200 breaststroke while Barnes added a time of 2:16.14 in the 200 fly to finish the individual events.

Valpo finished the meet with a fifth place effort in the 400 free relay as Rickey, Jarrett, Dangremond, and Andrea Bretl (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa H.S.) touched the wall in 3:50.45.

Valparaiso will return to the water December 2-4 at the Calvin Invitational, with Thursday night’s events beginning at 5 p.m. CST.
