Segatto, Castro Diaz Claim Individual Events vs. Wright State
Flavia Segatto earned a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle Friday versus Wright State.

The Crusaders held their first swim meet of the 2013-14 year Friday at the ARC and the Wright State Raiders ran away with a 146-58 win on the women's side and a 145-60 victory on the men's circuit.

Flavia Segatto (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charleow Finnegan) earned nine points for Valpo as the junior hit the wall at 10:51.72 in the women's 1000-yard freestyle. She nearly bested the Raiders' Kristen Hayhow in the 200-yard IM, but her time of 2:19.30 was a second and a half too late.

Freshman Rachel Law (Wayne, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) had an outstanding Crusader debut as she grabbed a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, good for four team points.

On the men's circuit, sophomore Gonzalo Castro Diaz (Mexico City, Mexico) picked up right where he left off after a dazzling freshman campaign. Castro Diaz (1:59.23) edged out Wiehan Boshoff (1:59.59) in the 200-yard IM for a first-place finish.

The 50-yard freestyle yielded a tight race as the top three swimmers finished within four one-hundredths of a second. Wright State's Alec Carnell hit the wall at 22.15 with Valpo's Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard) a hair's length behind him at 22.17 and Kyle Braun (McHenry, Ill./West) clocking in at 22.19.

The Stark Relays Invitational is next up for the Crusaders. The Brown and Gold travel to Notre Dame Friday, October 11th for a 4:00 pm start.
