Swimming Drops Dual to Green Bay
Valpo dropped its dual meet against Green Bay on Saturday.

The Valparaiso swimming teams dropped a dual meet Friday against Horizon League foe Green Bay at the ARC pool. The women lost 127-72, while the men fell 121-71.

Dani Gomez Barrientos (Mexico City, Mexico/Grandview Prep. [Fla.]) continued her stellar freshman campaign as she set the fourth fastest time in Valpo history in the women’s 200 yard IM, taking home first place in 2:12.32, and set the tenth fastest time for a Crusader ever in the 100 yard butterfly (59.85). She also swam the freestyle leg of the 200 yard medley relay that finished in third (1:56.32).

Fred Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) touched the wall first in the men’s 100 yard breaststroke in 59.33 and also scored in the 100 yard freestyle with a second place finish (49.42). He swam the breaststroke leg of the men’s 200 yard medley relay that placed second (1:37.77).

Gonzalo Castro Diaz (Mexico City, Mexico) took home second place in the men’s 100 yard butterfly (53.32). He also swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay and the second leg of 200 yard freestyle relay that took second (1:28.81).

Emily Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) placed second in the women’s 100 yard freestyle (56.50) while swimming the third leg of the 200 yard freestyle relay that took home second (1:44.74).

Max Penn (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep.) finished second in the men’s 100 yard backstroke (55.47) and swam the backstroke leg of the 200 yard medley relay.

Flavia Segatto (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) picked up a second place finish in the women’s 500 yard freestyle as she touched the wall in 5:19.68.

Arman Salim (Angola, Ind./Fremont) also finished second in the 500 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 5:02.92. He also swam the first leg of the 200 yard freestyle relay that finished in fourth (1:39.22).

In the women’s 100 yard breaststroke, Rachel Law (Wayne, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished second in 1:13.16. She also swam the freestyle leg of the 200 yard medley relay (1:59.53) that took fifth.

The Crusaders return to the pool on Saturday for a quick turnaround as they travel to UIC for their final Horizon League meet of the year before the league championships. Start time is set for 12:00 pm CT.
