Wright Improves Program Record as Women’s Swimming Opens MVC Championships
Paige Wright improved on her school-record 200 free relay time to kick off Valpo's 800 free relay Wednesday.

The Valpo women’s swimming team started off the MVC Championships in Columbia, Mo. on Wednesday. Senior Paige Wright (Surprise, Ariz./Paradise Honors) bettered her own program record in the 200 free, while both relays teams which competed moved onto the program’s top-10 charts.

How It Happened

  • Wright’s leadoff leg in the 800 free relay resulted in the first school record on the women’s side at the conference championship meet, as the senior posted a first 200 time of 1:54.14, improving her own school record by .66.
  • The 800 free relay team which led off with Wright and also featured Morgan Markley (Bluffton, Ind./Norwell), Sophie Morelock (Milan, Mich./Milan) and Mikayla DePover (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) posted a time of 7:56.21 to finish in eighth place and move into 10th place in program history in the event.
  • In the day’s first event, the Brown and Gold posted the second-best time in program history in the 200 medley relay. The team of Wright, DePover, Erica Martins (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Markley stopped the clock at 1:46.75, just .18 off the program record in the event.

The MVC Championships continue with the second day of competition on Thursday, with prelims at 11 a.m. and event finals at 6 p.m.
