Valpo Women Post Strong Efforts at MVC Championships Thursday
Mikayla DePover moved into fourth in program history in the 200 IM Thursday.

Day two of the MVC Championships for the Valpo women’s swimming team was highlighted by strong performances across the board, including a pair of top-five efforts in program history.

How It Happened

  • Paige Wright (Surprise, Ariz./Paradise Honors) started off day two with a strong showing in the 500 free B finals, posting a time of 5:02.54 to improve on her second-best time in program history and finish in 12th
  • Freshman Mikayla DePover (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) posted a time of 2:11.32 in the 200 IM prelims, fourth-best in program history.
  • Valpo had three swimmers with top-ten efforts all time in the prelims of the 50 free. Erica Martins (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) improved upon her sixth-best time in program history with a mark of 24.48, while Mariah Sturdivant (Chicago, Ill./George Westinghouse Prep) posted a time of 24.53 to move into seventh place. Morgan Markley (Bluffton, Ind./Norwell) bested her previous fastest time in the event as well with a time of 24.63 to improve upon her 10th-place time in the record books.
  • In the 200 free relay, Sturdivant, Chiara Robinson (Castle Pines, Colo./Rock Canyon), DePover and Martins moved into seventh all-time in Valpo history with a time of 1:38.69 to place eighth in the event.
