Valpo Women Set Pair of Records on Friday at MVC Championships
Erica Martins lowered her own school record in the 100 fly Friday.

Day three of the MVC Championships saw a pair of records broken in the 100 fly and in the 100 back for a strong showing for the Valpo women’s swimming team.

How It Happened

  • Erica Martins (Hartland, Wis./Lake County Lutheran) started day three off strong for the Brown and Gold in the 100 fly, improving her own record in the event with a time of 56.64 in the prelims. Martins finished 13th in the event final Friday night, just missing her time from earlier in the day as she posted a mark of 56.65.
  • Paige Wright (Surprise, Ariz./Paradise Honors) lowered the program record in the 100 back twice on Friday. Wright smashed the previous record by more than a second in the prelims, touching the wall in 56.35, and then pushed the time lower in the event finals, posting a 12th-place finish with a time of 56.32.
  • Mikayla DePover (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) placed 16th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.59 after swimming a prelim time of 1:05.43, while Sophie Morelock (Milan, Mich./Milan) led Valpo in the 400 IM with a 20th-place finish with a time of 4:47.92. Morgan Markley (Bluffton, Ind./Norwell) paced Valpo in the 200 free prelims with a time of 1:57.70.
  • Wright, DePover, Martins and Markley ended the day with a seventh-place finish in the 400 medley relay, registering a time of 3:53.92.
