Swimming Season Comes to a Close

The Valparaiso swimming and diving season came to a close Saturday in Chicago, but not before several Crusaders took points in the final day of the Horizon League Championships.

Flavia Segatto scored sixth place in the women's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.70 in the finals.  Segatto also placed 7th in the 1650 yard freestyle.  The sophomore finished the day with a 7th place finish in the 200 yard butterfly.

Andrea Bretl hit the wall at 10:46.44 in the 1000 yard freestyle which netted her 16th place.  The junior also flexed her muscle in the 1650 yard freestyle, good for 13th place. 

Justine Barnes took 16th place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.92 

Makenna Cannon competed in the 100 yard breaststroke and clocked a time of 1:10.03, good for 16th place, before finishing in 14th place in the 200 yard breaststroke.

Ciara Lightner earned 5.5 points with a tie for 11th place in the 100 yard backstroke.

On the men's side, freshman Gonzalo Castro Diaz finished 15th in the 400 yard IM.  Later in the 200 yard butterfly, he hit the wall at 1:55.34. Senior Guillermo Aguilar finished two spots behind Castro Diaz with a 2:00.57 time.

Frederick Jenny hit the wall at 57.47 in the finals of the 100 yard breaststroke, while Tate Wegehaupt claimed 11th place in the same race with a time of 57.72.  In the 200 yard breaststroke, Wegehaupt took 10th thanks to a 2:05.54 finish.

Matt King finished in 14th place in the 100 yard backstroke with a 53.74 time.  King later took 16th place in the 200 yard backstroke with a 1:55.74 time.  

Cleveland State was crowned the Horizon League champions.
