Valparaiso posted its first dual-match victory of the fall season on Thursday afternoon, defeating Olivet Nazarene 7-2 in Bourbonnais, Ill.
The Crusaders won both of the top two doubles positions. Monika Danko (Northfield, Ill./New Trier H.S.) and Christina Scala (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South H.S.) had little trouble in their 8-0 victory at the top spot, while Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North H.S.) and Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) were 8-6 winners at second doubles. The Tigers earned the third doubles point by default.
In singles play, Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) notched a 6-1, 6-3 victory at number one, while Danko had the tightest match of the day, a 6-4, 6-3 win at second singles. Chada was a 6-2, 6-2 victor at the third spot, while Scala and Evangelist each registered 6-0, 6-0 wins at four and five. Olivet Nazarene won sixth singles by default.
Valparaiso will compete one more time during the fall season, playing a pair of dual matches against Chicago State and Wisconsin-Green Bay on October 16 in Green Bay, Wis.
