Valparaiso faced a formidable opponent on Thursday evening and dropped a tough 7-0 match to Big Ten foe Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.
The Spartans (12-8) wasted little time winning the doubles point, posting victories at both first and third doubles by 8-0 scores, while winning at the second spot 8-1.
Valpo's
Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) had the tightest singles match at the sixth spot, dropping a close second set to fall 6-0, 7-5.
Jill Dierberg (Saint Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) and
Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) each fell 6-2, 6-1 at second and fourth singles respectively.
Valparaiso (9-7) will return to Mid-Continent Conference action next weekend as the Crusaders head to the final league cluster of the season hosted by Chicago State. Valpo will face IUPUI on Friday beginning at 9 a.m. in the Windy City.
