            Valparaiso suffered a narrow 4-3 loss for the third time this season on Saturday afternoon at Matchpoint Tennis Club in Griffith, Ind., this time falling to Horizon League foe Wright State.

            The Crusaders and Raiders split three singles matches, but Wright State (3-13, 1-4 Horizon League) won the doubles point to secure the win.

            Valpo’s Laura Lawson (Throntown, Ind./Western Boone H.S.) and Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) won at third doubles 8-1 Jackie Garrett and Monica Capozzielo.  The Raiders answered as Kenisha Webb and Christa Ames defeated Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) and Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) 8-3 at the top of the order.  Wright State’s Karina Presti and Jessica Lee won the decisive match 8-3 over Julie Wingstrom (Dallas Lake, Ind./Westview H.S.) and Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) at the second spot.

            Both schools won a singles match due to retirement.  Lee led Sajevic 4-1 at first singles before retiring, giving the Crusaders a point while Ames had a 6-2, 2-1 lead over Schwartz at the second spot before Schwartz retired.  Presti made it 3-1 Raiders after a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Keifer at third singles and Webb clinched the match for the visitors with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Wingstrom at the fourth slot in the order.  Valpo earned two more wins as Antrobus was a 6-2, 6-4 victor over Garrett and Lawson topped Kelly Lybrook 6-0, 6-4 at fifth and sixth singles respectively.

            Valparaiso (2-11, 0-5) will return to non-conference action on Monday afternoon as the Crusaders head to the Windy City to battle Chicago State in a 3 p.m. contest.
