Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) won the only singles match played by a Crusader on Saturday while Valparaiso’s lone doubles team in action dropped their match on the final day of a rain-shortened IPFW Mastodon Invitational held in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Due to rain in the Fort Wayne area, the matches were moved indoors, and thus the consolation third place matches in neither main nor consolation draws were played.

Bilyeu won her consolation final contest in number five singles with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory over Amanda Pettey of Oakland.  Bilyeau’s victory moves her back to .500 in singles action this spring with a 3-3 record.

“Katie’s match was very exciting,” head coach Traci Young said.  “She got behind early but was able to battle back and earn the win.”

Valpo also had a doubles team in the consolation final of flight one.  Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) fell 8-5 against Shelby Hullett and Vanessa Whyte of IUPUI.

Valparaiso will return to action next weekend for its final tournament of the fall schedule.  The Crusaders will participate in the Kellogg-Hinds Tournament hosted by Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill. on Friday and Saturday.
