Valparaiso’s women’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback to Cleveland State on Saturday evening at the Paramount Tennis Club in Westlake, Ohio.
The Vikings surrendered just two games in taking the opening doubles point. Alex Power and Alexandra Bush were 8-1 victors over Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) at the top of the lineup while Kara Sherwood and Mengdi Liu won by the same score at number two against Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.). Maria Lazaris and Sanda Bjelan topped Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) and Aubree Zdanovec (Appleton, Wis./East H.S.) 8-0 at the third spot.
Cleveland State (8-10, 3-0 Horizon) won all six singles matches in straight sets. Bush downed Brittany O’Reilly 6-0, 6-0 at the top by Kara Sherwood won by the same score at number two against Jackie O’Reilly. Power downed Zakiewicz 6-2, 6-1 at third singles while Lazaris was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over York at the fourth spot. Liu defeated Bilyeu 6-1, 6-1 at number five singles while Bjelan rounded out the lineup with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Zdanovec.
Valparaiso (0-11, 0-4) continues its five-match road trip on Sunday morning, with a 7 a.m. CDT match against Youngstown State.
