Crusaders Drop Match at Wayne State

Valparaiso wrapped up its five-match road trip on Sunday morning, dropping a 9-0 match to Wayne State at Fairlane Tennis Club in Fairborn, Mich.

Using the nine-point scoring system, the Warriors jumped on top sweeping the three doubles contests.  Sharon Gill and Kristina Goranskaya were 8-1 winners over Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) at the top spot.  McCall Monte and Milena Vuksanovic added an 8-2 victory over Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.0 and Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) at number two while Jennifer Bradford and Debora Correa added an 8-0 triumph over Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) and Aubrey Zdanovec (Appleton, Wis./East H.S.) at the third spot.

Wayne State (15-7) added four straight sets victories in singles play.  Bilyeu pushed Vuksanvic to a match tie-break at the third spot before falling 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 while York won the opening set at six singles before falling 6-7 (5), 6-2, 12-10 to Bradford.  Gill defeated Jackie O’Reilly 6-0, 6-0 at number one while Goranskaya won by the same score at two against Brittany O’Reilly.  At fourth singles, Monte was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Zakiewicz while Correa topped Zdanovec 6-3, 6-0 at five.

Valparaiso (0-15) returns home to the Valpo Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon to face UIC.  First serve is set for 2 p.m.
