Crusaders Win Sixth Straight

Valparaiso recorded its sixth straight victory on Tuesday afternoon as the Crusaders posted a 5-2 win over Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, Ind.

The Crusaders took two of the three doubles contests to open play. Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) and Jill Dierberg (Saint Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) were 8-6 winners at the second spot while Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) and Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./North H.S.) notched an 8-3 victory at third doubles. Indiana Wesleyan (1-2) won at first doubles 8-5 over Monika Danko (Northfield, Ill./New Trier H.S.) and Christina Scala (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South H.S.).

The Wildcats won at the top two singles spots as Janssen fell 6-4, 6-1 and Dierberg dropped a 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 match. Valpo won the other four singles matches though. Scala was a 6-1, 6-3 victor at third singles while Chada was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at the fourth spot. Evangelist tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles while Charmaine Stanislaw (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville H.S.) needed three sets for her 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 win at sixth singles.

Valparaiso (9-4) will host a Mid-Continent Conference cluster this weekend at Chesterton High School. The Crusaders will face Oakland on Friday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
