The rain forced Valparaiso to move indoors for their 2008 home finale on Saturday afternoon, and the Crusaders dropped a 7-0 Horizon League decision to Cleveland State at Matchpoint Tennis Club.
The Crusaders earned a victory at first doubles as Julie Wingstrom (Dallas Lake, Ind./Westview H.S.) and Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) defeated Denisa Muntean and Sanda Bjelan 8-2. Cleveland State (16-6, 5-2 Horizon League) won at both second and third doubles though to take the point. Charlotte Gibbons and Morgan Ungerott defeated Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) and Laura Lawson (Thorntown, Ind./Western Boone H.S.) 8-1 at the second spot while Jackie Tabb and Lindsay Sellers downed Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (DePere, Wis./DePere H.S.) 8-0.
Sajevic also played the tightest singles match at the top of the order, falling to Tabb 6-2, 6-4. Jenn Myers was a 6-1, 6-1 victor at second singles against Keifer while Bjelan defeated Wingstrom at the third spot by the same score. Gibbons topped Antrobus 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles while Muntean won 6-1, 6-0 against Lawson at number five. Sellers also was a 6-1, 6-0 victor over O’Reilly at the bottom of the lineup.
Valparaiso (2-14, 0-7) will wrap up the regular season on Monday afternoon with an 11 a.m. CDT match against Youngstown State in Youngstown, Ohio.
