The roads may have fared a little better, but the Crusaders' luck stayed on ice as they fell in straight sets to the IPFW Mastodons.
After ice and snow cancelled last weekend's matches versus Ohio Northern and Kalamazoo, Valpo took to the courts Friday afternoon for the first time since January 26th.
The Mastodons took the doubles point handily with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles and an 8-1 victory at No. 1.
No. 1 and No. 6 singles players Kristin Zakiewicz and Lauren Kammerer both lost their matches 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Angelina Goheen was able to muster a game in both sets of her 6-1, 6-1 defeat at No. 5 singles. Michele Fredlake suffered the same 6-1, 6-1 fate in her No. 3 singles match.
At No. 2, Kaitlyn Hamel gave the Mastodons' Kristine Lindal a run for her money before falling 6-4, 6-2. IPFW's Theresa Neumeyr beat Megan Barthels 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
With the loss, Valpo slides to 1-5. IPFW improved to 2-2 with the non-conference shutout.
The Crusaders return to action next Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee when Marquette welcomes them to town. The Golden Eagles entered play Friday with a 4-2 record having swept Horizon League teams Milwaukee and Green Bay last Sunday.
