Women's Tennis Falls in Its Season Opener

The Valparaiso women's tennis team dropped its season opener 7-0 to Western Michigan Saturday evening in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Freshman Cary Milanes (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) made waves in her first spring match, falling 6-3, 6-3 in a hard-fought match to Olivia Myers.

Kaitlyn Hamel (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) battled hard, but eventually ended up on the wrong end of a quarrel against Meika Ashby, 6-1, 6-1.

The Broncos clinched the match after Ana Reshetnikova handed Morgan Paras (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) a 6-1, 6-1 loss.

In doubles play, Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Cathlolic Cental) and Michele Fredlake (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph's) fought hard before falling 6-0 to Barberare Eristavi/Yuriko Ono.

Milanes/Paras gave Tracy Kuhle/Ella Perinovic a run for their money before ending up on the wrong side of a 6-0 loss.

The Crusaders return to action next Saturday versus Akron in Indianapolis.
