The Valpo women's tennis team opened its fall season Friday with four victories in the opening day of the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invite.
Sophomore Kathleen Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) rallied back for a dramatic 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 triumph over Northern Kentucky's Hailey Shanahan.
Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) easily handled West Virginia State's Nina Dillwald. The junior claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win. Freshman Halle Roach (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) got her collegiate career off on the right foot with a 6-4, 6-2 victory versus Maria Orellana of Morehead State.
Junior Morgan Paras (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) provided the Crusaders with their fourth win on the day with a 7-6, 6-2 dispatching of Dayton's Claire Herdina.
West Virginia State's Brittany Franco slid past Meg Modesto (Chesterton, Ind,/Chesterton), 6-2, 6-1. Franco's teammate, Brenda Cumpa, defeated Erin Staal (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven), 6-4, 6-0.
Freshman Randi Wind (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) dropped a 6-2, 6-3 contest in her debut to Xavier's Megan Morris. Sophomore Cary Milanes (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) fell 6-1, 6-4 to Morehead State's Aleksandra Savic.
Play continues Saturday morning at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Ohio.
