Freshman Randi Wind (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) assembled a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 comeback win at No. 4 singles Saturday at The Courts of NWI, but the Valpo women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Northern Kentucky.
The Norse notched wins at each doubles flight, earning the opening point in the process.
Sydney Power/Danielle Donahue defeated Kat Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster), 6-2, at No. 1 doubles to clinch the tally after Sierra Neilessen and Nicole Soutar had won by the same margin versus Halle Roach (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and Erin Staal (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) at No. 3. Wind and Meg Modesto (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) dropped a 6-4 contest at No. 2 to Klara Skopac and Rheanna Morehart.
NKU's Soutar opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 in her tilt with Roach. Morgan Paras (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) put together a nice second-set comeback attempt, but ultimately fell 6-0, 6-4 to Neilessen at No. 6.
Donahue secured the match for Northern Kentucky at No. 3 by virtue of her 6-2, 6-3 win versus Modesto. Power followed with a 7-5, 6-1 result against Heuer at No. 2.
Hebble claimed the first set in her match against Skopac atop singles, but the NKU junior stormed back for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Wind got the Brown and Gold on the board thanks to her 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 triumph.
Valpo (1-12, 0-2 Horizon) will close out a five-match week Sunday versus Wright State (13-7, 1-3 Horizon). First serve from The Courts of NWI is set for 12:00 pm CT.
