The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team started its spring trip with a 7-0 setback at Air Force Academy in Colorado on Saturday. The best match of the day came at No. 6 singles, where Dao Sysouvanh (Sun Prairie, Wis. / Sun Prairie) recorded a second set win to force a third-set tiebreak.

Tabanera Garners Third Straight Win on Sunday
Valparaiso University women’s tennis freshman Amanda Tabanera (Valencia, Calif. / Valencia) followed up her first career Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week distinction with another victory on Sunday, prevailing at No. 3 singles to provide the bright spot of a 6-1 setback to SIUE at The Courts of Northwest Indiana. The match was closer than the score would indicate with many of the matchups tightly contested.

Women’s Tennis Surpasses Last Year’s Win Total on Sunday
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team has already usurped its victory total from a year ago thanks to a 5-2 triumph over Eastern Illinois on Sunday afternoon at The Courts of Northwest Indiana in Valparaiso. Four of the six singles matches required a third set on a competitive afternoon of tennis that featured a strong showing from head coach Bob Modesto’s team.

The return to the state of Wisconsin was a happy one for Valparaiso University junior Claire Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) and senior Dao Sysouvanh (Sun Prairie, Wis. / Sun Prairie) on Saturday. Both Wisconsin natives emerged victorious in their singles matches, providing the highlight of Valpo’s 5-2 defeat to Milwaukee at River Glen Elite.

The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team put together a competitive showing on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, but host Butler earned a 4-3 victory at the Butler Bubble in a matchup that went down to the wire. Freshman Demi Jhaveri (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) highlighted three Valpo singles wins by topping a second-team all-conference performer from last season.

Women’s Tennis Caps Winning Weekend at DePauw Invitational
After going 12-0 in singles play on Saturday, the Valparaiso University women’s tennis team again swept through all singles matches against outside competition on championship Sunday at the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle. The only Valpo singles losses came in matches that pitted two Valpo teammates against each other, while the team won two of its three doubles showdowns on the final day of the weekend.

Women’s Tennis Enjoys Dominant Day at DePauw Invitational
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team put together a strong showing on the opening day of the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle, Ind. on Saturday. Valpo owned the day by winning 17 of 18 matches overall including a perfect 12-0 team record in singles. The team is off to a winning start to the Bob Modesto coaching era as Saturday’s strong showing followed a victory in a fall dual match.
