USA Track & Field Awards Level I School to Valparaiso University

Monday, September 30, 2002

USA Track & Field has awarded a Level I Coaching Education School to Valparaiso University November 29th through December 1st. Head track and field coach Tyler Wingard will lead the school.

The Coaching Education Committee of USA Track & Field provides ongoing educational opportunities for all levels of coaches--from the grassroots to the elite level. Its mission is to incorporate the latest research produced by the Sports Science and Medicine Committee, as well as independent research sources, into understandable curricula. The Coaching Education Committee developed a series of coaching certification schools--the Level I School is designed to introduce a standardized vocabulary and basic concepts of training theory, biomechanics, physiology, psychology, and event-specific technique and training progressions.

Coach Wingard completed his Level I Instructor Certification in July, 2001 and this will be his first Level I School. He is a Level II Certified coach in the Throws, Jumps, and Sprints/Hurdles. His father, Joel Wingard will be one of the other instructors. The elder Wingard is a member of the
Washington State High School Coaches Halls of Fame for both cross country and track and field. He is a veteran of numerous clinics in the Northwest. Also teaching at the school will be new Western Michigan assistant Jeff Hoskisson. Coach Hoskisson previously worked at Marquette where his athletes set 25 school records and earned two NCAA National Qualifiers and three USATF Junior National Qualifiers. He has taught at several USATF Level I Schools across the Midwest.
