Crusaders Finish Second at Chicago Invitational

Valparaiso recorded five individual event victories and Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan) added four top-three finishes as the Crusaders finished second Saturday at the Chicago Invitational.

Valpo registered 109 points on the meet for the runner-up finish, outpacing the third-place Augustana squad by 24 points. Illinois Wesleyan captured the team crown with 125 points.

Body showcased her versatility Saturday, recording two top-three finishes on both the track and the infield. She took second place in the 200m dash, completing the race in 26.79 seconds, and finished third in the 55m dash, coming home in 7.46 seconds, third-best in Crusader history. Body placed second in the long jump, leaping 35'4 ¾", and came in third place in the triple jump with an effort of 16'10 ¾".

Lakisha Lane (Topeka, Kan./Highland Park) brought home three top-four finishes for Valpo, including a victory in the 55m hurdles. The freshman broke the tape in 8.57 seconds, registering the third-best time in the event all-time at Valpo. Lane also placed fourth in both the 55m dash (7.66) and the 200m dash (27.02).

Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) took top honors in the triple jump for the Crusaders, leaping 35'11 ¼". Wilson also came home fifth in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.26 seconds.

Laura Rolf (Rochester, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) and Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) came home first and second in the one mile run. Rolf covered the course in 4:54.59, the second-best time in school history, while Nunnelly finished in 5:11.69. Nunnelly also placed third in the 3,000m run (10:46.15), with Rachael Button (Farmington, Mich./Farmington) coming home right behind her in fourth place with a time of 10:51.01.

Emelie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) notched two victories in the throws for Valpo Saturday. Marsicek topped the field in the shot put with a toss of 40'7 ¾", and followed with a victory in the weight throw with her effort of 43'3 ¾".

Valparaiso returns to action next Friday and Saturday, the 26th and 27th, as the Crusaders travel to Findlay, Ohio to take part in the Findlay Invitational. The meet begins Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. Central time.
