After finishing in third place at the 2007 Mid-Continent Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the best finish in program history, the Crusader women's track and field squad had six athletes named to the All-Conference team, led by 2007 Outdoor Newcomer of the Year Lakisha Lane (Topeka, Kan./Highland Park).

Lane propelled herself to Newcomer of the Year honors with her victory Saturday in the 400m hurdles. The freshman edged out UMKC's Stefanie Lasley by two one-hundredths of a second, crossing the line in 1:03.70. The time is the second-fastest ever run by a Crusader athlete in the event.

Ashley Billstrom (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall) earned All-Conference honors after capturing the gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase for the second consecutive year. The senior broke the tape in the event in 11:04.47, over 22 seconds clear of the second-place finisher. Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) received the league accolade for the second straight year by virtue of her third-place finish in the same event, as she completed the race in 11:34.05, the fifth-best time in Crusader history.

Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) received All-Conference accolades for the second time in three years for her performance in the shot put. The redshirt junior extended her school-record distance in the event for the third time this year, posting a toss of 44'11 ½", good for a second-place finish.

Rachael Button (Farmington, Mich./Farmington) earned All-Conference honors outdoors for the first time after posting a third-place finish in the 10,000m run with a time of 41:06.38. Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan) also received her first outdoor accolade with a leap of 36'6 ¾" in the triple jump, good for third place.

Billstrom and Lane will represent the Crusader women at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Columbia, Mo. Lane, who qualified for the 400m hurdles with her event victory at the conference meet, will compete in preliminaries at 7:20 p.m. on Friday, May 25, with the event final slated for 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, May 26. Billstrom, who qualified for the steeplechase based on time earlier this season and who is currently ranked fifth in the region in the event, will run at 6:40 p.m. on the 26th.
