Seniors Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) and Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) represented the Valparaiso women’s track and field team on the first day of competition at the NCAA Mideast Regional Friday in Fayetteville, Ark.
Marsicek placed 31st in the discus throw Friday with a mark of 130’0”, her first of two events at the regional meet. Wilson was less than two-tenths of a second off of her school record in the 100m hurdles, crossing the line in 14.44 seconds, but failed to qualify for Saturday’s event final.
Both Marsicek and Wilson qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional by virtue of their event victories at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships. Marsicek will conclude the women’s squad’s season Saturday when she competes in the shot put.
