The Valparaiso women’s track and field 4x100m relay team took first place Saturday afternoon at the Butler Twilight Meet in Indianapolis, Ind. to lead the Crusader effort.
The quartet of Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan), Patricia Kloth (Medford, Wis./Medford Area), Amy Anderson (Morton, Ill./Morton) and Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) teamed up to cross the line in the 4x100m relay in 50.62 seconds. They defeated the runner-up squad in the event by over one second.
Individually, Wilson posted three top-five finishes on the day. The senior crossed the line third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.27 seconds. On the infield, she placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18’3 ¾” and followed with a fifth-place effort in the triple jump, recording a mark of 37’2 ½”.
Body added two top-ten individual finishes in addition to her work on the winning relay team. The junior came home with a fifth-place showing in the 100m dash, crossing the line in 12.23 seconds, and registered a jump of 17’4 ¾” in the long jump, good for sixth place.
Kloth also had a top-ten finish of her own outside of the relay showing, placing eighth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.58 seconds. Alyssa Bradford (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) also stood out for the Crusaders, running to a ninth-place finish in the 1,500m run with a time of 5:02.08.
Valparaiso returns to the track at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships, to be contested at Youngstown, Ohio this Thursday and Friday, May 8-9.
