The Valparaiso women’s track and field team opened its indoor campaign Friday evening at the Mike Lints Alumni Open in Allendale, Mich., as a quartet of Crusader athletes registered top-ten finishes.
A pair of Valpo throwers posted top-ten throws in the shot put. Ini Umana (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) finished in eighth place in the event with a toss of 34’9 ¾”, while Natalie McCorriston (Lansdowne, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) finished immediately behind Umana, recording a distance of 34’5 ½” for ninth place.
On the track, Windy Santa Cruz (Fall Creek, Wis./Fall Creek) crossed the line in ninth place in the 800m run with a time of 2:38.61. In the one mile run, Alyssa Bradford (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) also tallied a ninth-place finish, completing the race in 5:31.12.
The Crusader women are scheduled to return to action next weekend at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. The two-day event begins Friday evening.
