Crusader Women Place Seventh at DePauw

The Valparaiso women’s track and field squad finished in seventh place Saturday afternoon at the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.

The Crusader women tallied 29 points on the meet Saturday for their seventh-place finish.  Host DePauw took the team title with 146 points.

Redshirt junior Ini Umana (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) led Valpo Saturday with a trio of top-five finishes in the throwing events.  Umana placed third in the discus throw (123’4”), fourth in the shot put (35’1”) and fifth in the hammer throw (139’1”).  She was joined by freshman Natalie McCorriston (Lansdowne, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) in the top-ten of two of the events, as the freshman finished eighth in the shot put (32’10 ¼”) and tenth in the hammer (119’3”).

Also on the infield, freshman Kara Connelly (Sugar Grove, Ill./West Aurora) finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing 8’8 ¼”.  Meanwhile, on the track, senior Alyssa Bradford (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) crossed the line in the 1,500m run in 4:56.30, good for fifth place, and in the 800m run in 2:19.24, recording a seventh-place finish.  Fellow senior Sara Christensen (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) registered a seventh-place finish of her own in the 5,000m run with a time of 19:29.29.

Valparaiso returns to action next Saturday, April 10 at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
