Crusader women in fifth after day two of HL Outdoor Championships
Kelley Freeman placed third in the pole vault at the HL Outdoor Championships.

The Valparaiso women’s track and field team posted three top-four finishes from field events on Saturday at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Valparaiso is in fifth place after two days of competition. Milwaukee is in first headed into Sunday’s final day of competition.

Sophomore Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) finished second in the high jump, clearing 5’ 3 ¼”.

Junior Kelley Freeman (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) tied for third in the pole vault with a best mark of 10’ 10”. Freshman Sarah Peters (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) finished tied for sixth.

Sophomore Brooke Hinstorff (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) placed fourth in the javelin throw with a season-best distance of 110’ 5”.

On the track, junior Grace Shemwell (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) finished 10th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 12:20.54. Freshman Cleo Holt (Marietta, Ga./George Walton Comprehensive) posted a season-best time of 25.98 in the 200-meter dash.

Valparaiso finishes up the final day of competition at the HL Outdoor Championships on Sunday. A link for live stats will be available at www.valpoathletics.com.
