Crusader Women Place 9th at GVSU Invitational

On Friday, the women’s track & field team took a 9th place finish at the GVSU Invitational. Eighteen teams and over 800 total athletes competed at the invitational. Sarah Peters and Sarah Drozdowski led the way for the Crusaders with third and fourth place finishes in the pole vault and weight throw.

On the track, Freshman Elizabeth Bloy secured a top-ten finish in the 800m run, crossing the finish line in 2:20.75; good for seventh place. Elsewhere on the track, Nicole Zehel took thirteenth place in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:21.84. Teammate Claire Johnson finished just two spots behind with a time of 5:22.55.

The Crusaders’ 4x400m relay team of Kelli Wosick, Malea Buck, Nicole Zehel, and Cleo Holt clocked in a 4:13.30, a time which was good for eighth place.

In the field events, Jazmin Taylor gave a solid performance in the high jump, posting a height of 5’01 ¼” – good for a sixth place finish in the meet and third best on the Crusaders’ all-time record chart. In the pole vault, Sarah Peters finished third place – the best finish by any Crusader on the day. Peterson was able to clear 11’07 ¼” – a height that moved her to the top of the Crusaders’ indoor record book. Sophomore Ann Chapman captured an eighth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 33’07 ¼”.

Sarah Drozdowski finished the day with a tenth and fourth place finish. The tenth place finish was in the shot put where she threw for a distance of 39’07 ¼”, while the fourth place effort was the result of a cleared distance of 55’11 ¾” in the weight throw.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, January 25th at the IPFW Quadrangular in Fort Wayne, Ind.
