The Crusader women saw action in two meets over the weekend. On Saturday, the Crusaders traveled to the University of Chicago to take part in the Windy City Invitational. In addition to the action on Saturday, Sarah Drozdowski, Sarah Peters, and Elizabeth Bloy also competed at the Meyo Invitational, which was held on Friday at the University of Notre Dame.

At the Meyo on Friday, Drozdowksi smashed Valparaiso’s all-time mark in the weight throw and took fifth overall in the event. Drozdowski’s clearance of 60’8” topped the school’s previous best mark, which she set, by over four feet. That record would fall quickly however, as Drozdowski topped her own record on Saturday at the Windy City Invitational. Finishing second in the event, Drozdowski set the new Valparaiso standard at 61’4 ¾”.

In the finals of the 1-mile run at the Meyo, Bloy finished in a season best 5:02.80; a time good for 19^th overall out of 48 total competitors.

Overall, the Crusaders found plenty of success at the Windy City invitational. In the 200-meter dash, Cleo Holt took second with a time of 27.39, and Kelli Wosick fourth at 28.15. Wosick also finished second overall in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 1:02.06.

Nicole Zehel and Claire Johnson took first and third respectively in the 1-mile run. Zehel managed to hold on in the final lap, edging out the second-place finisher by just tenths of a second with a time of 5:16.38.

Elsewhere on the track in the 3,000-meter run, Dezzarae Arce and Hannah Schilling finished second and third respectively. Arce clocked in at 11:10.01 and Schilling just seconds behind at 11:12.82.

Not to be outdone by her teammates, Jazmin Taylor finished first overall (5’3 ¼”) in the high jump, nearly matching her own school record of 5’4 ¼”.

Adding to her record-breaking weekend, Drozdowski took third in the shot put with a 38’9 ¾” effort. Megan Howdeshell finished close behind at fourth, clearing 38’4 ¾”. Howdeshell also placed third in the weight throw (49’0 ¾”).

The Crusader women next travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to take part in the Purdue Invitational. The meet is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 15^th.
