Taylor, Getz Secure Top Ten Finishes at Stanford

On Friday, several members from both the men’s and women’s Valparaiso track & field teams competed in the 30th Annual Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif. With entries from over 100 colleges, the meet will see roughly 3,000 athletes competing over the two day span.

Representatives at the meet from Valparaiso included Jacob Frey (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area), Jacob Smutz (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison), Jeremy Getz (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Kelli Wosick (Mount Prospect, Ill./Saint Viator), Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island), and Megan Howdeshell (Bourbon, Ind./Triton Junior-Senior).

Leading the Crusaders at Stanford was Taylor, who cleared 5’3” in the high jump for a seventh-place finish.

Also securing a top ten finish for Valparaiso was Getz, who placed eighth in the javelin with a mark of 159’3”.

Frey represented Valparaiso in the men’s hammer throw, clearing a distance of 161’4”; while Wosick clocked in at 1:00.93 in the women’s 400-meter dash.

Action at the Stanford Invitational continues tomorrow for the Crusaders, with Howdeshell competing in the discus. Those who did not make the trip to Stanford will be competing at the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle, Ind. For complete results for each meet, visit ValpoAthletics.com.
