The Valparaiso University women's track and field team set a pair of school records at the Butler Twilight meet on Saturday evening, while three other Crusaders posted first place finishes at the Puma Invitational in Rensselaer, Ind. on the same afternoon in the Brown and Gold's final tune-up for the Mid-Continent Conference Championships.

Amanda Lee (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon H.S.) posted a school best time of 11:23.64 in the 3,000m steeplechase to finish in eighth place in the event. The junior's time bettered her own school mark of 11:24.11 set last season.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Maggie Zellner (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy), Rachel Nelson (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit H.S.), Amy Mikel (Lemont, Ill./Fenwick H.S.), and Amanda Meyer (Somerset, Wis./Somerset H.S.) became the first team at Valpo to break four minutes, crossing the line in 3:58.65, bettering the old mark of 4:07.79 set earlier this season.

Also at Butler, Zellner finished 13th individually in the 400m dash with a time of 59.10 seconds, while Nelson and Mikel finished sixth and seventh respectively in the 800m. Nelson crossed the line in 2:15.84, while Mikel was .69 seconds behind her teammate. Jessica Cherrington (Roseburg, Ore./Umpqua Valley Christian H.S.) was the only Valpo thrower to compete in Indianapolis, placing fifth in the javelin with a heave of 114'8".

While several individuals were competing at Butler, the rest of the squad was at the Puma Invitational.

Lindsay Haan (Westminster, Colo./Denver Lutheran H.S.) won the triple jump with a leap of 33'9 ¼", while Holly Hagen (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) took home top honors in the shot put with a heave of 39'4". Martha Josephson (Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes H.S.) also came home victorious after clearing 5'2 ¼" in the high jump.

The Crusaders will take a week off before competing in the Mid-Con Championships May 15-17 in Macomb, Ill.
