Dawson Named Assistant Track and Field Coach at Valpo

Aimee Dawson has been named a new assistant track and field coach at Valparaiso University by head coach Tyler Wingard.

Dawson arrives at Valpo after spending three years at Jacksonville State University where she was the head coach for both the men's and women's cross country teams, while she also started the women's track and field program. While at Jacksonville State, Dawson led four athletes to All-Atlantic Sun Conference honors, including the 2003 women's javelin champion.

Prior to her stint at Jacksonville State, Dawson spent two seasons at Indiana State as an assistant where she coached the school record holder and national qualifier in the decathlon. She also has prior coaching experience at Hartwick College (N.Y.) where she coached the NCAA Division III national high jump champion.

Dawson is a graduate of SUNY-Geneseo with a degree in communications. She was an NCAA Division III national qualifier in the high jump in 1995, when she set a school record. She also earned multiple All-Conference honors in the jumps, hurdles, multi-events, and javelin.

She is USATF Level II certified in all event areas and is a Level I instructor.
