Valpo Seventh at Pacesetter Invitational

Valparaiso earned a seventh place finish over the weekend at the Pacesetter Invitational hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Crusaders scored 41 points over Friday and Saturday while Purdue won the event with 212.5 points.

Valpo scored most of its points in the field events. Jessica Cherrington (Roseburg, Ore./Umpqua Valley Christian H.S.) finished runner-up in the javelin with a toss of 133'11", her best of the season. Holly Hagen (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S) placed third in the hammer throw shattering her own school record with a heave of 173'0". Hagen also placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 41'8", one place and 6 ¼" behind teammate Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau H.S.). Rachel Liptak (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley H.S.) also scored for the throwers with a toss of 118'4", placing seventh in the discus.

Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain H.S.) continued to better her own school marks in the triple jump and long jump. She placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 36'8 ½" while finishing eighth in the long jump with a mark of 17'8 ¾".

On the track, Maggie Zellner (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) finished fifth in the 400m hurdles crossing the finish line in 1:07.54. She also finished eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.52.

Valpo will head to the Eastern Michigan Twilight Invitational on Friday in Ypsilanti, Mich. Events begin at 10 a.m. CDT.
