Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan) broke her own school record Friday as she won the long jump, while Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) also surpassed her own record in the shot put as the Valparaiso women’s track and field team competed at the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich.

Body bested a field of 31 other athletes in the long jump to take top honors.  Her leap of 18’9” was a half-inch better than the runner-up.  The mark was six inches longer than the junior’s previous school record in the event, which she had set during her freshman campaign.

Marsicek earned fourth place in the shot put with her record-setting effort.  The senior finished with a mark of 45’9 ¾”, nearly a foot farther than her previous program record in the event, set last spring at the Mid-Con Outdoor Championships.

Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) and Sara Christensen (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) each added tenth-place finishes on the day for the Crusaders.  Wilson earned her tenth-place showing in the long jump, leaping 17’8”, while Christensen took the top-ten placement in the 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the line in 12:25.48.

Valparaiso concludes action at the meet on Saturday, as the first event is slated to get under way at 9 a.m. CDT.
