Pair of School Records Fall on Day One of Horizon League Indoor Championships
Amanda Body set a new school record in the qualifying round of the 60m dash Saturday.

Seniors Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan) and Laura Rolf (Rochester, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) each set new school records Saturday, with Rolf taking the event victory in the 5,000m run, as the Valparaiso women’s track and field team competed on the first day of the Horizon League Indoor Championships in Greencastle, Ind.

The Crusader women accumulated 18 points on the first of two days of competition, good for fourth place.  Milwaukee leads the team standings with 58 points.

Rolf earned the event victory in the 5,000m run Saturday with a school-record effort of 16:53.16, surpassing former All-American Collette Liss’ previous mark by four seconds.  The senior defeated Loyola’s Colleen Donovan by better than six seconds to earn ten points for the Crusaders.

Body surpassed her own school record in the qualifying round of the 60m dash, crossing the line in 7.82 seconds, .08 better than her previous mark.  The senior was the second-fastest qualifier for Sunday’s final in the event.  Body also qualified for Sunday’s event final in the 200m dash, going third-fastest with a time of 25.99 seconds, and posted a third-place finish in the long jump, leaping a season-best 17’10 ¾”.

Alyssa Bradford (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) qualified for Sunday’s final in the 800m run, posting a time of 2:23.67 in the preliminary round.  Also on Saturday, Natalie McCorriston (Lansdowne, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) posted a season-best mark of 38’4 ¼” in the weight throw to lead the Crusaders, while the distance medley relay squad of Bradford, Body, Windy Santa Cruz (Fall Creek, Wis./Fall Creek) and Sara Christensen (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) finished fifth with a time of 12:47.41.

The Indoor Championships conclude on Sunday, with the first event beginning at 8 a.m. CST.
