Drozdowski and Richardson lead Crusaders on second day of HL Indoor Championships

Sarah Drozdowski (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and Jessica Richardson (Columbus, Ind./North) each recorded top-five finishes to lead the Valparaiso women’s track and field team on the second day of the Horizon League Indoor Championships at the Watson and Tressel Training Site in Youngstown, Ohio on Sunday afternoon.

The Crusaders finished in seventh place. Loyola won the title, and Milwaukee was second.

Drozdowski, who already had a second-place finish in the weight throw, took third in the shot put with a season-best mark of 44’9 ½”. That distance is a personal-best for Drozdowski and the second-best mark in school history.

Richardson knocked more than six seconds off her season-best in the 3000-meter run, finishing fifth with a time of 10:12.69.

Nicole Zehel (Wixom, Mich./Lutheran Westland) took sixth in the one-mile run, crossing the line with a time of 5:07.75, which was a season-best time for her.

Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) finished seventh in the high jump, clearing 5’2 ¼”.

The outdoor season for the Crusaders begins on Saturday, Mar. 23 at the Gene and Rose Edmonds Invitational in Rensselaer, Ind.
