Junior Sarah Drozdowski (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) was a double-winner to lead the Valparaiso women’s track and field team at the Puma Invitational in Rensselaer, Ind. on Saturday afternoon.
Drozdowski placed first in the hammer throw with a mark of 168’ 10” and won the shot put with a distance of 41’ 10 ½”. She also finished second in the discus throw with a mark of 134’ 11”.
Sophomore Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) won the high jump, clearing 5’ 3”.
Freshman Sarah Peters (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) took first in the pole vault, clearing 11’ 3 ¾”. Junior Kelley Freeman (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) took second in the pole vault, and freshman Ashley Heisey (Shippensburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) was third.
Sophomore Jessica Richardson (Columbus, Ind./North) won the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:17.44.
Sophomore Kelli Wosick (Mount Prospect, Ill./Saint Viator) won the 400-meter dash (1:01.42) and finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.42).
Junior Marissa Crafton (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) took second in both the long jump and the triple jump.
Junior Grace Watkins (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) and sophomore Eileen Carmignani (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) finished third and fourth, respectively in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
The Valparaiso track team returns to action on Friday, April 5 for day one of the Chicagoland Championships in Chicago, Ill.
