Field events shine for Valpo women at Eagle Invitational
Sarah Drozdowski had a pair of top-four finishes at the Eagle invitational.

Junior Sarah Drozdowski (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) recorded a first-place finish and a fourth-place finish at Saturday’s Eagle Invitational in Lisle, Ill., and the Crusader women’s track and field team posted many high marks in the competition.

Drozdowski won the hammer throw with a distance of 158’ 3”. She also placed fourth in the shot put with a best distance of 41’ 1 ¾”.

Freshman Sarah Peters (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) finished second in the pole vault, clearing 10’ 9 ½”, which is a season-best mark for her.

Freshman Megan Howdeshell (Bourbon, Ind./Triton Junior-Senior) placed third in the discus throw (133’ 2”), while junior Erica Funk (Blue Mound, Ill./Meridian) was fifth (127’ 11”).

Junior Marissa Crafton (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 35’ 2 ½”, and she also place sixth in the long jump (16’ 5 ¾”).

Sophomore Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) placed sixth in the high jump by clearing 4’ 11”, while fellow sophomore Brooke Hinstorff (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) was sixth in the javelin throw (99’ 9”).

On the track, freshman Cleo Holt (Marietta, Ga./George Walton Comprehensive) placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 12.71 seconds.

Sophomore Eileen Carmignani (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) was eighth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:51.48.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 20 at the St. Norbert Invitational in DePere, Wis.
