The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their respective 2015-16 indoor campaigns Friday at the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Mich.
Competing with partial squads in the season opener, the Valpo men saw two individuals earn points with top-eight finishes on Friday. Leading the way was Anthony Franze, who posted a time of 22.86 in the 200m dash to finish in sixth place. Nathan Dotts (23.04) and Anrique Ellery (23.13) also earned top-20 finishes in the 200m dash, while elsewhere in the sprints, Jeru Lollis ran the 60m preliminaries in 7.16 seconds, just 0.04 seconds outside Valpo’s all-time top-five.
The other top-eight placement for the Crusader men took place on the infield. Montell Hall posted an eighth-place showing in the triple jump with a leap of 41’9 ¾”. Andrew Guzek posted a mark of 48’6 ¾” in the shot put, less than six inches away from his PR which ranks among Valpo’s all-time top-five, and Johnathon Heagy cleared 6’2” in the high jump, just four inches shy of the Crusaders’ top-five all-time.
On the women’s side, the Crusaders also saw one athlete come up just shy of Valpo’s best marks in program history, as Chidimma Ozodi placed 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 33’8 ¾”, just four inches outside the top-five. Elsewhere on the infield, Sarah Peters cleared 10’8” in the pole vault and Ann Chapman leapt 16’0 ¼” in the long jump, while Cleo Holt paced Valpo on the track in both the 60m dash (8.19) and 200m dash (26.98).
